R-E-S- P- E- C- T

R-E- S- P- E- C- T
After you hear those words spelled out.
There was no doubt who you must be talking about.
MS. Aretha Franklin
 Queen of soul.
She let em all know.
A natural woman through and through and let the world know how you have to approach one.
She let her all her sisters know how to become one and no matter what they currently are now or have been in life that they were still a flower.
I could remember that brazen sultry voice slashing the airwaves with her truth.

Today her sound would be referred to as classic, AM gold, or an oldie but a goodie.
Hell. The sistah was just plain ole good.
She was that voice you needed to hear even if you didn't feel much like listening.

Her voice would penetrate and empower ones soul.
She gave so  much and asked for so little.
She was truly worthy of respect.
MS Aretha Franklin.

Thank you.

Dear adversity

Dear adversity,

I'm writting you just to say thank you.

Thank for all my struggles.

Thank you for knocking me down so many times.

Thank you for showing me all the people I can actually count on when times get hard.

Thank you for tapping me on my shoulders when I think I've turned a major corner.

Thank you for showing me just how much more work I have to do.

Thank you.

Thank you for all the obsticles in my path.

Thank you for this burdomsone load I have to bear all alone.

Thank you for applying more pressure on me when I feel I've reached my breaking point.

Thank you for endowing me with titanium skin.

Thank you for forcing me to look deep within.

Thank you for showing me that complaining changes nothing.
Thank you for every door that ever slammed shut in my face.
Thank  you for showing me just how unfair and cruel life can be.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to prove you wrong over and over again.

Thank you for letting me see you for what you truly are.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Without you I would not have the motivation to not allow my heart to harden.
I don't have the insatiable need to win, but because of you I now have the courage to fail.

Thank you adversity.

Signed,
a poet.

BE MINDFUL

People ask me all the time why are you so quiet.
I never know quite how to answer them.
In this new generation we live in we give everything a clinical sounding name to describe something or someone.
Quiet people like me used to be described as weird.
Now people say introvert.
I guess I'm an introvert by todays standards.
I think I'm old fashioned in a sense, because my grandmother(god rest her soul) used to call quiet people mindful.
I think that's what's wrong today.
There are not enough mindful people in the world.
Before I open my mouth ( or type as it were) I'm mindful.
I'm mindful before I complain about going to work when there is someone out there in desperate need of a job.
I'm mindful about complaining about my day when there is some one some where drawing their last breath.
I'm mindful before I speak foul words when someone irritates me.( sometimes one or nine might slip)
They might just want my attention that badly.
I try my best be mindful before calling a woman  out her name because of how she dresses or what type of man she's attracted to.(she may have been touched at an early age)
I'm mindful about calling someone stupid just because I don't understand their   logic.
One has to be mindful in these times we live in.
If people were more mindful we'd have more progress,  and less stress.
I'm not perfect by any means.
Sometimes I do go all the way off.
When I do though......I'm mindful about it.
😉

HALLZIES DREAM

Martin Luther King had a dream.
He dreamed  that we would be able to sit down at the table of brotherhood and have a  big slice of equality. His dream has partially come into fruition.
We now have opportunities and privileges we were once denied of because of his dream.
We definitely are in a better place because he dared  to dream.
I have dream too.
I dream that black son's can live in world where they don't have to speak to their black fathers from a correctional facility pay phone.
I have a dream that we no longer need affirmative to get employment satisfaction.
I have a dream that one day we won't have to become entertainers or athletes to achieve the American dream.
I have a dream that one day we'll start teaching our little girls to become empowered women.
I have a dream that one day we'll start teaching our little boys to become righteous kings.
I have dream that we'll start loving our own culture before we make painful strides to understand other cultures.
I have a dream that we'll stop killing each other over dated notions of hood etiquette.
I have dream that we will be able to gather peacefully in public places without having public law officials being called on us.
I have a dream that one day we'll learn to be more tolerant of each other.
I have dream that one day the truth won't be deemed as preachy.
I have dream that one day we will become totally self -aware and self-reliant.
I have a dream that we will stop being so easily divided and distracted on the matters at hand.
I have a dream that one day we'll stop insulting each other on social media and start toasting and wishing each other well in all their endeavors .
Welp.
It's a nice dream.
It sounds really good.
Pardon me if I drift off on you in mid-speech sometimes.
 I was probably just dreaming.

BREAKING NEWS

I'm living in world full of white noise.
My thoughts are being drowned out by polluted air waves.
Every time I turn on the news I get the blues.
Every time I pick up my device I feel like loose a little piece of my life.
People always say things like stay positive and don't let what's going on in the world effect   what's going on in your world.
I wish that was an easy task to do.
I can't unsee the things I see.
I can't unhear the things I heard.
I can't unread the things I've read.
What is the solution?
How do you hit the mute button on a million screams?
Where's the escape hatch?
How do we put this ride on cruise control?
How do we unplug from the machine when everything has been mechanized.
We've all become desensitized.
We're all becoming weaponized.
We're all getting exploited and victimized for your entertainment.
All news isn't bad news but now a days good news isn't news at all.
How do we reprogram the programmer?
How do we take our peace back?
How do we get back on track?

If you have one of the answers.....that's news to me.

SPEAK LIFE

Sometimes it's had to find nice things to say when your situation looks so bleak.
Your dead on your feet and staring defeat in the face.
Your last spark just burnt out.
Your now officially running on fumes.
No one feels your pain.
No one cares about your struggle.
No one cares about your plight.
No one can dig you out this  hole.
It's up to you to fight.
No matter how bad things look for you .
You must speak life.
Speak life into your storms and skies will calm
Speak life into your pain and you will heal.
Acknowledge your struggles but don't let it break you.
Life is your own unique journey and no one else can take you.
Speak life into your  weary soul.
Speak life  into your aching bones
Speak life into your situation and the atmosphere will change.
Speak life in everything you do and nothing will remain the same.
Speak it.
Live it.
Breathe it.
Believe it.
Speak life.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW?

Some people call me know it all.
I don't how they could ever come to that conclusion.
I don't know the first thing about most things.
I just know what I know.
I don't know much.
All I do know is that I have a thirst to know more than what I what I know.
I want to know more so I can grow more.
I want to share any newly found gems that I stumble on.
I don't fear the unknown.
I welcome it.
Getting stumped.
I relish it.
If you know more than me...by all means point me in the right direction please.
I want to uplift with my knowledge not put down.
I want to get an understanding.
I want to find common ground.
I want to be relatable.
I want all my opinions to debatable.
I want the type of wealth that can never be depleted.
I don't have all the answers.
I hope I never find all of them.
I want information that can never be deleted.
I want don't want to know everything.
I just really have a desire to inspire.
So, no I'm not a know it all.
I just know what I know.

What do know?
